Crispy Fried Plantain

Plantains are large green cooking bananas and are a staple food in most of the tropical regions of the world. These are starchier but less sweet regular bananas and can be used both unripe (green) or overripe.

Ayurveda states that plantains have astringent taste, are heavy to digest and cold in nature, which makes them a good summer food for Pitta season. Dosha wise, plantains pacify both Vata and Pitta doshas and slightly increase Kapha dosha.

Plantains help build strength and stamina by nourishing all the body tissues and also work as aphrodisiacs. These are seen to cure excess heat and inflammation and are thus used in the treatment of peptic ulcer. Plantains serve as an ideal food for diabetes, diarrhoea, dysentery as well as female disorders like vaginal bleeding or white discharge.
