Adrenal Fatigue- Your Age is Not Why You Are Exhausted

This post is inspired by Mrs.W an 90 year old, whose zest for life coupled with her easy going manner continues to inspire me even today. I was introduced to Mrs.W about 2 years ago by some common friends, even then, she stood out as the humble lady of the house, her shy mannerism was quite a contrast from the silent strength and agility that she displayed. Mrs.W was a quiet by nature, but nurturing and affectionate nonetheless, her love for others could be easily seen by the way she made sure everyone around her was well fed and taken care of.

Today she is 90, and energy levels continue to amaze me and her zest for life commands respect from everyone. She is the living proof of the statement

At the most people would want to retire to their beds, lose interest in their lives and have a general distaste in any routine activities around, Mrs. W cuts a completely contrast figure. Her daily routine starts with a morning walk, followed by a healthy breakfast. She spends hours tending to her garden and has the most beautiful flowers in her backyard that bloom right from spring through fall. She is socially active always inviting friends and family over, and yes she never misses a chance to spend some time with her great grand children. Mrs. W keeps her mind, body and soul fully occupied in her daily routine, and her stamina and zest for life is enough to any 20 year old to shame.

In fact as a healthcare practitioner, I see everyone blaming age for their fatigue and low energy levels whether they are in late 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's. But I also see 90 year olds having more energy and passion than 20 year olds.....I sometimes see 70 year olds who are killing it, while 30 year olds getting killed with exhaustion.

So here it is.......

Aging does not mean waking up tired...

Aging does not mean losing the zest for life...

Aging does not mean struggling to get through the day....

So don’t blame it on your AGE.....But check your ADRENALS

So what exactly do I mean by check your Adrenals?

Adrenals are walnut sized glands that reside on top of your kidneys and govern your stress response. If you are constantly stressed for longer periods of time or suffer from chronic anxiety there is a chance your adrenals are affected. If you are a Vata dominant, Pitta dominant of Vata Pitta body type, you are prone to suffering from stress related health conditions.

How do I know if I am suffering from Adrenal fatigue?

Adrenal fatigue is tested mainly on the basis of a questionnaire and also a urine test.

Adrenal fatigue is a very common yet under recognized health concern, that results when your stress glands are exhausted and unable to function well. It is a result of the combination of chronic long term stress, poor nutrition which results in lowered energy as well lowered immunity and the hallmark of which is fatigue not relieved by sleeping even for 10-12 hours a day. People suffering from this are often habituated to coffee and energy drinks to get through the day and suffer from unexplained blues.

Koenisburg Adrenal Test is a common  urinary test for adrenal insufficiency. The test can assess urinary chloride and provide an indirect measurement of sodium excretion and thus the status of the adrenal glands. It is a simple urine test that can be carried out under 15 minutes.
